Welcome to NZ Kyokushin Karate
Welcome to the website of New Zealand Kyokushin Karate (Ltd.), the organisation headed by Shihan Peter Jennings, Director of NZKK and the Wellington based Branch Chief of IKO Matsushima.
NZKK has its genesis in the late 1970’s when Shihan Jennings, Shihan Ron Discombe and Sempai Jim Jennings established the Marist Kyokushin-kai Karate Club in the Wellington suburb of Newtown.
The Marist Club developed into one of the most successful clubs in the country, producing many quality black-belts, national champions and New Zealand representatives.
After the Marist dojo changed locations several times within the Wellington CBD during the 80’s and 90’s, it shifted to the northern suburb of Johnsonville in 2000, where it still operates.
Johnsonville is also the location of NZKK headquarters – which includes a fully equipped training studio, where weight training, fitness sessions, self defence programmes and advanced Kyokushin tuition is facilitated.
NZKK is committed to the physical, technical and emotional development of students through the traditional and modern Kyokushin training methodology developed by the late Sosai Masutatsu Oyama and supported by Kancho Yoshikazu Matsushima.
